I finally gave in and gave this Patreon thing a whirl. I still don't know much about it. Or what I'm doing there. But, I'm going to use it as a platform for stories I can't publish any other way.
No, I'm not begging for money. I'm supplying exactly what I would supply for your monetary support. I'm writing you stories. I'm hoping to offset the costs of publishing that actual book sales are no longer meeting. And I'd love to, one day, be able to put out another audio book. The production for one is expensive. Very expensive.
I currently have two reward levels. The lowest level is $2. That level will be where you get the monthly or bi-monthly installment of the non-canon Southern Scrimmage serial Stuck in Traffic. And a $4 level. For March the reward on that level is the special edition of Six Ways from Any Given Sunday, which combines the two books mentioned in the title into one continuous, chronological order novel. But that story will go away on March 31st.
I think that I will replace the special edition novel in the $4 level with a monthly chapter of the unwritten sequel to Two Point Conversion. I never wrote that story because there is no where to host it.
How Patreon works:
I am still new to this so I can't help with trouble shooting but this is what I do know.
You sign up with Patreon as a Patron. You pick your reward level with the price that works for you. If you pick the $2 level, you get everything on that level and below. Which right now is just the welcome page on my account. If you pick the $4 level you get everything on that level, and everything on the levels below it.
The second thing you should be aware of: This is a monthly revolving service and your card will be charged for the amount you pledge every month until you cancel it. Your card will be charged on the first of the month.
I know some people have pledged more than I asked. And some people have not been able to open the levels. I would have to guess that those are probably linked occurrences. Please don't pledge more than I have levels for.
I don't know how to troubleshoot for you. I know that you can edit or cancel your support at anytime. You'll have to look around at the site on your end to figure out how to do that.
One more thing you need to know about my Patreon:
I'm using a service called Bookfunnel to host my 'books' on Patreon. When you click the link to get the book, you will be taken to a different site. Bookfunnel is free on your end. But you will have to sign up for an account with them, again it's free and they don't keep data. You will have to give them an email address. They will email your copy of the book or short story to you in the format you picked. Mobi for kindle readers. Or epub for other readers. I do not have it set for a PDF.
And bookfunnel does troubleshoot for you, if you can't open the files they have a help line somewhere.
So, now that you know what it's about and what I'm doing, you can make the choice to support me there, or not. I'm okay if you want to wait for books. Please note, that anything I publish on Patreon will never be published anywhere else. And I will not list books by chapter that I do plan to publish. Though, I might offer the finished product as an "ARC" through Patreon before I publish. I haven't made that decision yet.
Anyway, if this sounds good to you, you can find my page at the big PATREON link below. And, if I ever hit one hundred Patrons, I have promised I'd record a video of myself reading a scene from a book, or discussing something. I'll let the Patrons decide what.
